Northwest Arkansas is perhaps one of the best - secret - secrets in the country when it comes to attractions and activities. It's home to all sorts of hidden gems, and if you want a weekend of fun for your girl's big day, Fayetteville is the place to be. This little corner of Arkansas has a lot to offer, not only for girls but also for adults.

It also houses some of the state's most popular attractions, including the Fayetteville Zoo, Arkansas State Museum and the State Capitol.

There are many other historic sites to visit, including the Arkansas State Museum, Fayetteville Zoo and the State Capitol. If you're a history buff like me, there's even a museum at the University of Arkansas that has over 100 years of history behind it. There is also a museum of the Arkansas Historical Society and a museum garden as well as a museum of natural history. So next time you're in Arkansas and you're history - folks, look at that.

If your group wants to experience Fayetteville as a local, spend some time in downtown F Arkansas and the Square Gardens.

Better still, take your day off and visit one of Fayetteville's many breweries, such as Burton's Creamery or the Ale Trail. Even if you don't join the Ale Trail, there are plenty of fun pubs in and around F Arkansas, so make sure to stop by! Burton's, the coffee shops, are also a good stopover on the way back from the Square Gardens or other destinations in the city.

Much of northwest Arkansas life revolves around Walmart, a company founded in 1962 in Rogers, Arkansas, and headquartered in nearby Bentonville, Arkansas. The Walton family has made a tremendous contribution to Fayetteville, and I mention Walmart twice for the reasons mentioned above. Walmart is based in Bent, about half an hour away, but it is still an important part of the city's history.

The cities of Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers and Bentonville (which I will discuss in a later post) make up the majority of the population of the area, although there are some runaways in this area too, such as Eureka Springs and Bella Vista, both a short drive away. The area between the Arkansas River and the Ozarks Highlands National Wildlife Refuge is a popular destination for hiking, camping, fishing, mountain biking and other outdoor activities. Lake F Arkansas, which is also home to a number of hiking trails and a lake that reaches to the tip of Lake Okeechobee, the largest lake in the state of Arkansas.

As you can see in Fayetteville, there is a large greenway, the Arkansas River Greenway (formerly Bentonville Greenways), which connects the southern part of the city with North Bentonsville and has its own unique flair, including the Crystal Bridge Museum. Thanks to generous grants from local foundations, this Greenway is largely finished and has opened a corridor that runs from Bentonville to F Lafayette and back to town, offering plenty of opportunities for recreation and recreation.
